Reflective statement

Before this module, I did not seen television as something that could influence society in a meaningful way. I had always seen it as 'something in the background', however after our debate and having seen many quality shows, television has proved itself to be something we can lean from as well as something of interest and with entertainment value.

We have been introduced to programmes such as The Wire and The Steet which, as well as being thoroughly engaging, we are able to learn about other peoples cultures and values throught society.

I found the debate especially interesting as I was able to discover that television is in fact, not just lights in a box but a reflection of the world we live in today, something which even film can somethimes struggle to achieve.

Despite some of the downsides to TV, such as the critisism that it may have a bad or wrong influence on children, or even have health risks, I think that there is no doubt that television is something that, in this day and age, is ingrained in our daily lifes. It is something which allowed us to escape and which we can learn from positivly.
