First things first I hope you all had a great christmas!

The film I desperatly wanted to see over the christmas holiday was infact not Avatar but Sherlock Holmes, but after experiencing the whole new exotic world of Pandora, I find it hard to believe that any film released this year can top it.

I know we have discussed in class that, in many ways Avatar will not be remembered as an iconic film purely based on it's storyline, although I was pleasantly surprised that there was an interesting plot which was both entertaining and thought provoking despite it's lack of origionality.

I did however find the use of CGI and 3D effects outstanding. That alone made the film origional as I'm sure it will be the first of many excelent 3D films to come this year. I was facinated by the Na'vi (or 'blue people'/smurfs/losers - if you insist!) and I think it was the sheer beauty of them that made me want to see the film in the first place. I know that is a very superficial reason to want to see something, especially because my main interest was to see something that isn't even real, but it's true. I think we all think that to some extent.

I think that Avatar is the kind of film that has the ability to transport you literally to another planet... but only if you'll let it! Those who enter the cinema with a cynical approach to the film are of course not going to be able to enjoy it. That wasn't the case for me, and I'm glad, because I used my imagination and therefore thoroughly enjoyed the film for what it was.
